I REMEMBER YOU (2009)

VERSION 1

Your crumpled dress
Lay in a funeral pyre
The streetlight bathed it
In a portrait of fire

I see your apricot eyes
Turn away from the light
Two ships start to capsize
Passing in the night

I can’t trust my memory

I remember you, I remember you
I remember you, I remember you
I remember when you clutched me half-asleep
I remember when your body dissolved in the heat
I remember things that never were true
I remember you

The bridal gown
Was cramped and cold after hours
You wanted gin but only
Drank whiskey sours

Let the carousel turn
Hurling me to and fro
It’s no cause for concern
How was I to know

Everything reminds me

(repeat chorus)

I can’t trust my memory
It always reminds me
I can’t trust my memory
It always reminds me

(repeat chorus)

VERSION 2

Your crumpled dress
Fell down on our battlefield
Restlessly
Your body dared me
With a promise revealed

Then your apricot eyes
Glinted with devil’s gold
And my life was revised
Fortunes were foretold

Captive of my memory...

I remember you, I remember you
I remember you, I remember you
I remember when you clutched me half-asleep
I remember when your body dissolved in the heat
I’ve forgotten everything that I knew
But I remember you

I felt your kiss
Go through me clear to the bone
Severing
You held my back
I plunged into the unknown

Then your apricot eyes
Glinted with devil’s gold
And my life was revised
Fortunes were foretold

Every dream I think is true
I Remember You
Every day I make it through
I Remember You
I remember when you clutched me half-asleep
I remember when your body dissolved in the heat
I’ve forgotten everything that I knew
But I remember you

Sometime after I won the 2008 ISC, I was contacted by a composer in Europe who had some tracks and wanted me to write some lyrics.

It’s hard to write lyrics to pre-existing tracks but I gave it my best.

Nothing satisfied him and we never completed a song. I kept asking for more guidance as to what he was looking for, but he wanted me to just intuit it. I wrote at least two version of this title, as the original track was called "I Remember You" -- both versions I have a posted.

I rewrote the same musical track as "Broken Glass," "Love I Know" and "When the World Began". All those lyrics are posted if you want to see me trying and trying to figure out what he really wanted.
