ANNE BOLEYN (2012)
(v1)
I heard people say
I would rue the day
That was the word on the spiteful street
(When) I changed the decor in the bridal suite
Shifting the direction
Altering complexions
Setting up the lighting for my permanent collection
They said, well, its always the way
(rise)
But I dont think so
I dont think so
(v2)
So your love is too pure
For a girl to endure
And you say, theres no need to apologize
(Its) The love of your lovers that fades and dies
That turns the pages
Disengages
Shrinking far away from your royal rages
Youre powerful deep and mature
(rise)
But
I dont think so
I dont think so
(chorus)
Im second to none
You son of a gun
Dont worry Im totally past it
You wont hear me vent
Over what it all meant
Cause I could have spent
My whole short life
Explaining myself
But it was fun while it lasted
(Bridge)
Its said
Tumble into bed
And desire is already partially dead
We dread
Being misled
But considering the alternatives
.a girl could lose her head
(v3)
A wise lover learns
The worm always turns
Valentines shift from profound to trite
Those sweet little deaths never last the night
Your smile confesses
New caresses
Watching as somebody else undresses
While cast away love always yearns
(rise & chorus)
I Dont Think So
I Dont Think So
(chorus)
Im second to none
You son of a gun
Dont worry Im totally past it
You wont hear me vent
Over what it all meant
Cause I could have spent
My whole short life
Explaining myself
But it was fun while it lasted
It was fun while it lasted

This was a fun little exercise. I wanted to write a quirky take on the Anne Boleyn story, in a contemporary "second wife" (or replacement girlfriend) situation where she suspects there is already another waiting in the wings.
"...a girl could lose her head..."
