Ian had written this melody to another lyricist’s work, but they two had some differences on the direction of the song. Ian really wanted to use this melody and asked me to write a totally new and different lyric for it.
This was an object lesson in finding a hook that worked and building a lyric around it. It’s written with a very mainstream sensibility to it, with an emphasis on being positive and uplifting.
