WORK OF ART (2006)

(v1)
A squiggle of blue
A blob of green
Just like the copy in the magazine

People clustered
Oohed and Aahed
Fanned their brows and murmered “oh, my god”

(chorus 1)
And I just don’t know where to start
What makes something into a Work of Art
Something inspired
Something admired
Something you can’t really tear apart
What makes something a Work of Art

(v2)
I saw a guy
On the TV
Talking about his new CD

Looked at his face
And got his drift
His powerful music was a mighty gift

(chorus 2)
And I just don’t know where to start
What makes something into a Work of Art
Authentic creation
Without confrontation
Something that’s real and not just smart
What makes something into a Work of Art

(bridge)
I’m turning down the volume on the posers in our midst
Who say I just don’t get them, as they argue and insist
I need a little quiet, and I need a little air
A little self-reflection, perhaps a little prayer

(v3)
Sit on the grass
And look around
And nobody tells me what’s profound

I see your smile
I hear you sing
I feel the wonder in the smallest thing

(chorus 3)
And I just don’t know where to start
What makes something into a Work of Art
Something unpainted
Something untainted
Something that’s truly from the heart
What makes something a Work of Art

The Muse was good to me this day. Got the first couple of lines, kept it simple, strongly stated. I really like the simplicity of this one.
