JESSICA NYE (2008)
Jessica Nye woke up and made the bed
Opportunity knocking at her head
She rolled out her yoga mat
Did a downward dog
Then she fed the cat
Jessica Nye composed a little note
Took a moment to think, thats all she wrote
Saw Yesterday on the couch
With averted eyes
And defensive crouch
Dont give a sideways glance
Give Yesterday time
To put on his pants
Drive away down the street
Write Yesterday off
As incomplete
Tell me, Jessica Nye
Dont you feel like throwing confetti
Time is wasting, better get ready
Its all good
Youre getting a second try
Good for Jessica Nye
Jessica Nye leafed through a magazine
Said hello to her long lost friend caffeine
Thought maybe shed spend the night
Watching several movies
In black and white
Jessica Nye licked her cappuccino foam
While Yesterday packed his things back home
She savored the quiet thrill
Of kinetic motion
While standing still
Dont give a sideways glance
Youre finished with Yesterdays
Song and dance
Time to start shifting gears
Let go of a few
Faded souvenirs
(bridge)
Brand new days are hard to come by
For the insecure
Easier to keep on doing
What you did before
When you face yourself
And you look within
And you understand
Where your life has been
And you know youve
Found the courage
For something new
And its all for you
Tell me, Jessica Nye
Dont you feel like throwing confetti
Time is wasting, better get ready
Its all good
Youre getting a second try
Good for Jessica Nye

Written for a lyric workshop, the assignment was to write something with a name in the title.
Carlo and I put this together to pitch to a singer, though it turned out a little retro. Its a modern sort of "Georgy Girl" or "Mary Tyler Moore Theme" about a woman tossing out her old life and confidently looking towards her new one.
