SAD STORY (2006)

(v1)

She was standing on the shoulder, like she didn’t feel the rain
Watching taillights disappear from view
She brought the storm in with her, I asked her what was wrong
Told me things it hurt me that she knew

(chorus)

Everyone’s got a sad story
That they want someone to hear
They’re looking for a friendly smile
Or a sympathetic ear
Everyone’s got a sad story
They carry in their heart
But the sorrow cuts so deep
They don’t know where to start

(v2)

I made her take some money, bought her ticket for the bus
I held her hand and tried to keep it warm
She hugged me and she boarded, the greyhound raced the night
Another story slowly taking form

(chorus)

Everyone’s got a sad story, etc.

(v3)

I often think about her, and wonder how she did
The memory doesn’t change as I get older
And every time it rains I hear her broken voice
Feel her ragged breathing on my shoulder

(chorus)

Everyone’s got a sad story, etc.

I’ve recently (May 2009) revised this one, to tighten it up and take out a confusing and unnecessary transition.
