MYTHS (2006)

(v1)
I lost myself in sacred totems, idols behind glass
Walking the museum in a daze
Reading the descriptions of religions of the past
Wondering what’s believable these days

(v2)
Cause I believed in being loved and in our promised land
In myths about forever and a year
I believed the golden ring you placed upon my hand
Now it’s a distressing souvenir

(chorus)
The world began when the earth was severed from the sky
The gods made two dominions out of one
When you left I cried so many tears, a year’s supply
I didn’t see a new world had begun
A new world has begun…..

(Bridge)
I don’t think that gods answer prayers
Nobody’s that naïve
Gods can only point the way inside
And there are things I now believe
There are things I now believe

(v3)
I believe the sun will rise and you’ll become a myth
A story I’ll remember now and then
I believe that private gods and secret worlds exist
And in them I will find myself again

(chorus)
The world began when the earth was severed from the sky
The gods made two dominions out of one
When you left I cried so many tears, a year’s supply
I didn’t see a new world had begun
A new world has begun…..

I saw an exhibit at a museum about Polynesian religions, and made some notes on their myths.

It seemed to lead into another breakup song...
