FOUNTAIN (2007)

I toss a coin
And see it splash
While mentally subtracting from my cash
Watch it twirl
And watch it sink
Things hit the bottom so much faster than you think

Look into the fountain
Here you see a million dreams distilled
Let’s count up the wishes
Lying in the fountain unfulfilled

I shake my head
It never fails
Looking down at heads when I called tails
I could have sworn
But who’s to say?
The fountain always flips the coin the other way

Look into the fountain
Here you see a million dreams distilled
Let’s count up the wishes
Lying in the fountain unfulfilled

Maybe you’ve got good luck
Enjoy it my friend
Bad luck is gonna find you in the end

And so it is
And so it goes
Another chapter drawn abruptly to a close
And here I stand
That’s all she wrote
Emptying the change out of my coat

Look into the fountain
Here you see a million dreams distilled
Let’s count up the wishes
Lying in the fountain unfulfilled

This was written for a song fragment sent to me by one of my regular collaborators. He sent me a verse/chorus arrangement, and I came up with this (adding a bridge).

Very reminiscent of Dave Frishberg’s "The Underdog" lyrically.

Hopefully, we’ll finish this one someday...
